Yes ... I definitely believe that every day is a new opportunity to live however we like, make choices, make changes ... and learn new tricks. :)) I feel I am becoming more of my authentic ME every day.

BTW, I am doing some reading on the research on "happiness" and there is evidence that people become happier as they age, peaking around age 65 and leveling off between age 65 and 75.

I equivocated. Yes, I know some very uncivilized people who behave in ways that are extremely vulgar and simply shocking and I have been navigating some horrible social waters for a very long time--when I should have just gotten out of the water. (T…

I'm back! Yes, the "secret answer" is to stand up and walk out! And, only one person has ever, in my adult life, made nasty comments about my weight and that problem is resolved. I just used that example because it does happen to other people here…

Wow, Vivienne. Good to see you back writing! An interesting post. People actually shout at you? I don't know that I've ever had that happen to me -- well, certainly not in a social situation or on an ongoing basis. I can only think of three nasty ar…

I have been inordinately happy lately--just thought I would throw that into the mix. No idea why. Some cool things. My husband is turning 60 and I just turned 58. We are kinda nerdy and fat and ... yet, we have very attractive cool younger friends w…

Don't Go to Vivienne's Charm School

No one would describe me as a push-over. No one would describe me as passive or defenseless, or powerless, or weak, or quiet, or ... But, I AM powerless against the Shouting World. In fact, my only reliable weapon in life, to date, has been logic and that only kicks in six months to six years too late.

I am powerless against mean people, shouting people, passive aggressive people, irrational people... I have not found my magic power, yet. Ahhh, yes, it is because there is no magic power—there i… Continue

Situation Management in the Shouting World

Following along in an orderly fashion, I think I have established that I have not exercised very much discernment and have allowed quite a few Mean Women (and a few Mean Men) into my life. I am now allowing myself to hate the mean people in my life--not to engage in any hateful activity, just to hate them from afar and to disengage from them. Which led to the whole "healing through hatred" thingy.

And, that has led to my newfound revelation that practicing discernment in my life would be a good… Continue

Just So You Know

I just realized that one could get the impression, from reading my blog, that I am completely caught up in interlocking sets of vicious cliques of "Mean Women."

That is not the case--just so you know! I am not, nor have I ever been, a member of a clique. I think that a "group of friends" and a "clique" are two entirely different kettle of fish although I have not perfected my definitions of the differences in their dynamics, yet.

I am however, a "card carrying member of the ACLU." I was, that… Continue

My Hate Group Has a Goddess

My "Healing Through Hatred" is going swimmingly.

But, first, let me say that people are simply terrified of hate or repulsed or both. I used to said, "Hate corrodes the vessel that carries it." Not anymore.

Friends try everything in their power to get me to use another word. They beg me to reconsider. But, I will not.

Then, they have to reassure themselves that I am not in some way self-destructive. They are convinced that I am in some magical and mysterious way harming myself just by hating… Continue

Healing Through Hatred--Nice Isn't Working

My new thing in life is healing through hatred because being nice wasn't working.

I have tried to solve many problems in life by being nice, diplomatic, understanding, empathic, sympathetic...the list does go on. My parents rule in life was that there were two sets of rules--those for other children and those for us. We had to take the high road. We had victim stamped on our foreheads.

No one, by the way, would see me as a victim. My alleged friends (I am reevaluating my friends and some are g… Continue

Hi Viv, thanks for replying. I'm glad your daughter loves the academics, and sorry to hear about the social stuff at Vanderbilt (makes sense since it was built by the Vanderbilt's :) She must be a hot student to be able to get into such great schools - you must be very proud - deservedly!

Also, thanks for speaking up to that very rude person, FB, on here. I let one of the administrators on this site know what was going on and she removed him. He was very insulting and inaccurate. The last straw for me was that the day I contacted the administrator, after seeing his ranting on here, I had come close to fainting, earlier, because I had had such a hard time getting myself to eat anything that day that I had begun to faint while cleaning the kitchen, and started to fall. His comments were waaay out of line. So thanks for speaking up to him.

Hi Vivienne,

Thanks for your message. I'm a bit north, now, an hour north of San Francisco. Yes, Santa Cruz would have been a great place for the 'rents to visit :) Where did your daughter end up going to school, and is she enjoying herself?

Hope life is going well - thanks for writing.

Hi Vivienne,

Great to hear from you, and apologies for my slow reply, but haven't been checking into this site as often as I'd like! Work is really busy currently, but I'm really enjoying my research. It's great to virtually 'meet' new people here in this fantastic forum. Hope all is well with you, and thanks for your message.

Hi Vivienne, thanks for asking how I am. I'm dealing with an aging parent health crisis and a home remodel this summer...

Big hugs, Vivienne! I can sympathize with the frustration of always having to go where someone else wants -- and not getting to do your own thing. So sleepy ... going to get some rest. TTYS

Hi - As far as Wisconsin size acceptance events, the only thing is Linda's Big Connections dances, www.lindasbigconnections.com. Club Round Clubhouse is near the IL/WI border. Unfortunately, there are no NAAFA groups in WI and the IL Chapter closed in 2007. The Abundia Retreat is a great annual event in IL, would definitely recommend them! I'll be going this year and am really looking forward to it! Thanks for your comments.

PS: I once tried to "dance like no one is watching" in a Walmart and an employee thought I was having a stroke, lol. Geesh!

Wow - you make a lot of sense - and I can totally understand that dieting and not losing much weight thing. I have a super-underactive thyroid and my doc just faxed in a higher doseage prescription for me at the drug store and I just called and they don't have that doseage at that pharmacy, so they are calling around right now - ain't that great? It's really an inconvenience but I guess if I want my body to function some, I better make the effort to get it. Anyways, thanks for contacting me to be friends! You and your partner look absolutely stunning to me!
