I think you are on the right track... there is a large body of evidence that happiness does NOT increase directly with - what our society THINKS brings happiness - i.e. wealth, beauty or fame. On the contrary! When I was 18, Marilyn Monroe committe…

Doing the math on Weight Loss surgery

The Dr David Flum study found that 2 percent die within 30 days of a gastric bypass. They did 120,000 gastric bypasses last year. So that means that 2400 people died within the first month of their surgery. Flum also found that another 2-4 percent die within the first year. So if we say 2 percent which is a low estimate (because among older patients up to 7 percent can die within a year of surgery) that makes a total of 4800 deaths last year just within the first year of their gastric bypass. To put it in prospective, 3900 Americans died in the first 3 years of the Iraq war. Gastric bypass causes more deaths within one year than a war causes in 3 years. How can they say this is "lifesaving"?

Dr Neil Hutchens who did Jackie the 627 lb woman (Disc Health) who required a takedown later to save her life, has done 3500 gastric bypasses. At $5000 each (Doctor's fee) that gave him an income of $17,500,000.00. A nice chunk of change there. Cash cow?

New group on weight loss surgery

I started a group on weight loss surgery here on this network, where you can see the real story (you know what they never show on TV?). You can ask any questions in a friendly atmosphere or post your comments or experiences.

It should be noted that the three big promises given for weight loss surgery have now been disproven in scientific studies! (promises were to cure diabetes, keep weight off easily, kill the appetite).

People who have it for THESE promises or because a medical provider tell… Continue

Reasons for Having Weight Loss Surgery

We hear reasons for having Weight Loss surgery or WLS as it's abbreviated, almost on a daily basis. Perhaps we should look at these "reasons" and see if they are valid or not.

  • Reason 1: If you don't have WLS you will die soon (within 2-5 years - the estimate depends on what doctor is telling you this>

    • 1. According to Dr Paul Ernsberger, Associate professor at Case Western Medical school, obesity does not cut the lifes

Answer to Baylor article 5 medical reasons to have Weight Loss Surgery

The following is my rebuttal to the Baylor article "Five Medical Reasons to have WLS"

Starting with the last sentence of the article:

**** Partnered with improved quality of life, the medical benefits of weight-loss surgery can’t be taken lightly; the surgery can truly lead to greater physical and emotional health and wellness, adds Dr. Nicholson.****

Fat Factoids

Although we hear how "obesity kills" daily on TV, the truth that science has observed is quite different. Here are some interesting things about obesity that you may not have heard:

1. "300,000 die of obesity each year". This figure was based on a 1993 study by Michael McGinnis and William Foege which appeared in JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association. What McGinnis and Foege actually calculated was that "dietary factors and activity patterns that are too sedentary" contributed t… Continue

Biggest loser video... open fat phobia?

At the end of this blog is the link of the video of the Biggest Loser teaser.

It shows the husband of the oldest couple (63 years old) collapsing at an exercise session and looking like he had a heart attack.

It shows people grimacing in pain (they work out 4 or more hours a day - last year's winner told "US MAGAZINE").

And it shows a rather large man who had a gastric bypass (RNY) and obviously gained it back.

It also shows Jillian and the male trainer screaming at the applicants to "work h… Continue

Hi Sue,
I just finished reading Health at Any Size, and I thought ti was wonderful! I wish it was more widely advertized so more could read it... but of course considering the subject matter NOT being about the most popular diet trent... that probably won't happen. Oh well, I read it,and I liked it!
