Who I am!
I have so much to say about fat stuff but so little time... I am in my third year of a PhD and so should really be writing that. However I will say that my thesis is looking at discourses of fatness in celebrity gossip and I'm very proud that I will one day be a Dr. in fat studies... ok it won't say that anywhere, but I'll know.
As well as doing my own bit for fat activism when n where I can, I organised the first fat studies event in the UK - a one day seminar which was just awesome and oh so inspiring. This has led to a related book called 'Fat Studies in the UK' which I'm co-editing. It is a collection of activism, academic, and personal reflective pieces, art work, cartoons. Just your general fabulous book about fat that is fat loving and sticking it to the fat haters. I'm so looking forward to it being a book to hold in the hands!
For all UK based fat activists and academics, we started a Yahoo group -
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fatstudiesuk/
It has led to the formation of HAESUK, a policy challenging group fighting fatphobic legislation and general public discrimination.
More shall be written once I have more time or need a diversion from writing the blooming great big thesis.
