Fat Activist Network

The Network for People Fighting for Fat Rights

Hi, my husband is going on Sabbatical, so my 7 year old son, 10 year old daughter, and big fat, unchic I are going too. I looked up a group in France called "Allegro Fortissimo". I first saw them on a great film by Dawn French (of French and Saunders fame). Anyway, their whole website is in French, of course, and I have only been able to suss out a few of the words/ideas but it is giving me some hope. I even signed their petition to Air France about discrimination. I am not exactly sure of everything on the petition, but the gist was clear.

Does anyone have any experience with this group?

This sounds wonderful! I don't know the group at all and read only about 10 words of French. I have traveled to France/Europe a couple of times but have never lived outside the US. I did not see any large size clothing at all anywhere in any country in Europe. I did feel very visible there not just because I am fat but because Americans dress so differently in ways I cannot always define. Well, we are the only people that wear big white athletic shoes everywhere! I have an acquaintances who lived in Paris for awhile with their children and I can share some of their experiences if you want to contact me personally. SITS, (suffice it to say :) I am green with envy.

Merci, Kathleen!

I am currently living in the 15th, but between Suffren and rue de fed. My children go to school at EAB-JM, on rue du Theatre. My French sucks, though I am taking classes. I used to be semi-fluent in Italian, which, of course, helps with the structure, but screws up everything else. Please tell me about your experiences her in Paris, or in France/Europe in general.

Most of all, thank you so much for replying!
Warm regards,
b
